Such organizations are most often associated with the federal government, local police, or other components of the criminal justice system.

Crime prevention requires an understanding of the three elements requisite for a criminal act to occur. First, the criminal must possess the motivation or the desire to commit the crime.

Second, the criminal must possess the skills and/or the tools necessary to commit the crime. Finally, the criminal must have the opportunity to commit the crime.

These three elements are often referred to in law enforcement as "motive, means, and opportunity." To stop crime, a preventive measure must focus on eliminating one or more of these three elements.

Online Organizations to Help Protect and Prevent from Cyber Crimes

There are many organizations to help protect and prevent from cyber crimes, but not all of them are useful to individual consumers. If you want real, concrete information on how to protect yourself from cyber crime, watch the video above.

The speaker describes all of the many anti-cyber-crime services offered on McAfee.com. All of the services described in the video are completely free and can let you know if you're already a victim of a cyber crime.

McAfee.com guides you through a three-stage process to detect and prevent cyber crime. First, you will see a series of steps that McAfee recommends taking in order to defend your machine against cyber crime.

The next step is completing a short online survey about your security measures to find out where you could improve your safeguards. The survey does not ask for any sensitive personal information. Finally, after you receive a free security profile of your PC, you can call and talk to a McAfee advisor to answer any questions you may have.

Do You Think Cameras Deter or Prevent Crime? Experts Say No

If you ask some experts the question "do you think cameras deter or prevent crime," you might get a resounding "no." More and more criminal experts are refuting the idea that crime cameras actually work.

When cities and businesses need the cameras to work, they often fall short. For example, New Orleans has installed cameras throughout the city to catch criminals in the act.

However, city residents and city council members were outraged when a shooting took place and the crime camera that should have caught it all was not rolling at the time.

Perhaps the most damaging consequence of the cameras not rolling when they should be is the message that malfunction sends to criminals. If they believe there is a good chance the cameras won't work when they commit a crime, there is little deterrent to prevent them from doing so.

Firefighters Help Prevent Crime in Schools

A new experiment has firefighters collaborating with local and federal authorities to assume a new role. The purpose of the experiment is to see if firefighters help prevent crime in schools.

One school has already tried the experiment. Garfield Middle School theorized that any uniformed presence can help deter crime, and firefighters are no exception.

So far, the plan has worked. After stationing uniformed firefighters throughout the school during regular hours, school crime has dropped substantially.

The results are encouraging and may lead other schools to recruit local firefighters to patrol school grounds to help contain violence and other criminal activity. Firefighters often have down time on their shifts, so the school patrol allows them to make the most of their time on duty.

Tips on How to Prevent Computer Crimes

Everyone is interested in tips on how to prevent computer crimes because breaches of personal computers can be devastating. Your documents, financial spreadsheets, and personal identifying information could all be compromised if computer crime occurs.

You may have heard of something called a firewall, which is basically a buffer that keeps external users out of certain programs on your machine. The firewall will prevent hackers from accessing the programs and information to which you have access.

Firewall software is just as important as anti-virus software to secure your computer. In fact, most comprehensive anti-virus programs come with firewall protection included.

You might even consider using separate machines for external access and personal computing needs now that computers are so affordable. For instance, you might use one non-Internet-enabled laptop to compose documents and do your taxes, and use another machine to check your emails and surf the Web.

How Can U Prevent Cyber Crime Kit Attacks?

Everyone is aware of the danger of cyber crime, but now committing such crimes is easier than ever with cyber crime kits. These kits are essentially viruses for sale online for aspiring hackers.

So you're probably wondering how can u prevent cyber crime kit attacks on your computer. Thankfully, there are several basic things you can do to protect your information and your hardware from these attacks.

First, purchase a solid anti-virus program and regularly run updates to ensure you have protection against the latest viruses. Try to find an anti-virus program that also includes anti-malware and anti-spyware elements as well.

Also, don't underestimate the importance of constantly-changing, complex passwords. Secure your email and financial accounts with difficult passwords that you change every 30-60 days.

Where to Find Stop Crime Clipart

Stop crime clipart can help you enhance a PowerPoint presentation, Word document, pamphlet, brochure, and other anti-crime media and literature. You can find anti-crime clip art easily online.

For example, if you visit FotoSearch.com/illustration/crime.html, you can find over 1300 images of anti-crime clip art. If you see an image you want, you can right click it to save it to your desk top.

When you're searching for images, you can organize them by license type. In other words, not all of the images are free; some require royalty fees.

If you want to search for only free anti-crime clip art images, you can organize the gallery to produce only those results. You can also toggle back and forth between "illustration" results and "clip art" results.

Secrets of Neighborhood Designed to Prevent Crime

A neighborhood designed to prevent crime focuses on community action to deter criminals from targeting the area. Vigilance is always the key to preventing neighborhood crime.

One strategy you can take to deter crime in your area is to set up a neighborhood watch. You can take turns watching the streets in your neighborhood with other members of the community.

Everyone should vow to report suspicious activity immediately to the police. The police in most areas will even offer assistance in setting up a neighborhood watch program and cooperate to make your area safer.

Also remember to keep the streets and other areas of your neighborhood well-lighted. Areas with plenty of light are less likely to be targeted by criminals.

UK Succeeding in Efforts to Stop Knife Crime

The United Kingdom appears to be succeeding in its efforts to stop knife crime. A new report indicates that the number of offenders jailed for knife crime is up by 23 percent over the past year.

The rising number of people jailed for knife crime is a reflection of the UK's commitment to carry out full punishments for those caught illegally carrying a knife. The police have been giving fewer warnings and more sentences.

The same report showed that the average sentence length also increased over the past year. The average sentence for knife crime is now 38 percent longer.

"It is crucial that everyone feels safe when they walk around our towns and cities," said the UK's justice secretary, Jack Straw. "That is why we have clamped down on thugs who carry knives and doubled the longest jail term available."

Book on How Guns Stop Crime

While some view guns as contributors to violent crime, others hold the opinion that more guns in the hands of law-abiding citizens actually deter violent criminals.

In fact, John R. Lott, Jr., a scholar at the American Enterprise Institute, has written a book about how guns stop crime. The book is called More Guns, Less Crime: Understanding Crime and Gun Control Laws.

Mr. Lott contends that criminals are most effectively deterred by higher penalties. Those penalties can include getting shot or killed by a law-abiding citizen with a gun.

Lott points to the statistic that for every additional year that a concealed-weapons permit law remains in effect, the murder rate drops by three percent. Likewise, rapes and robberies decrease by two percent.

Taser Makes New Gun to Prevent Crime

Police forces across the country are giving rave reviews of a new gun to prevent crime. The gun is an otherwise normal Taser, or stun gun, but it has special recording equipment in the handle.

The handles of these Taser guns have small video cameras built in. The handles can then record criminal incidents for review.

The camera-equipped Tasers cost about $1,500, which is paltry in comparison to the cameras that rest on most police car dashboards. Dashboard cameras cost about $5,000, so the Taser is actually cheaper.

Some police departments have already adopted the camera-equipped Tasers with positive results. The footage captured helps defend the police officer's actions and can be used in court against the defendant.

Higher Education Helps to Prevent Crimes, Study Shows

Studies have shown repeatedly that higher education helps to prevent crimes, from murder to theft. In fact, the Common Good Forecaster, a United Way project, indicates that even one more year of education can make a difference in crime levels.

For example, the Forecaster points out that if every adult in New Mexico were moved up one schooling level (e.g., high school drop-outs would become high school graduates), the murder rate would drop by over half.

Similarly, the incarceration rate would fall by more than 60 percent. The number of people who return to prison after a previous incarceration would also drop.

The Forecaster proves that education has a powerful and positive effect on crime prevention. Even small additional amounts of education have the ability to reduce the number of serious, violent crimes.

Tips on How to Stop Cyber Crimes

The information stored on your computer and all the data you send into cyberspace leaves a huge opportunity for identity thieves to hack into your personal information. For tips on how to stop cyber crimes, read on.

Potentially, if you use the Internet, everything you store on your computer's hard drive could fall prey to hackers. To prevent this from happening, avoid storing any revealing financial information on your computer.

For example, you don't want to store electronic copies of your income tax returns on your computer. Instead, put them in locked files or a safe.

Likewise, make sure you password protect all of your email accounts, bank accounts, and sensitive documents. Your passwords should be complex, with capital letters, numbers, etc. Avoid using common words or phrases and change all of your passwords often.

Do Cameras Prevent Crime Activity or Are They a Waste of Money?

Security cameras are ubiquitous these days, appearing in everything from department stores to video rental stores. But do cameras prevent crime substantially?

Although it is generally accepted that cameras are a deterrent to crime, more research exists on whether cameras reduce crime. The answer to that question, based on the results of surveillance systems in major cities, seems to be yes.

For example, when the Chicago Police Department (CPD) installed a Web-based surveillance program in February of 2006, the cameras helped police make 1,200 arrests in a year-and-a-half time period.

"Our preliminary research shows that they are effective, especially left in places for over 180 days," explained Jonathan Lewin, the commander of the CPD's information services. "Once it's in, it's hard to move because the community loves it. If they don't see the camera there one day, we get calls."

Don't Trust Phoenix Crime Stop Relationships

Crime rates have long been a talking point that the government tends to focus on. The increase of crime rates just means that the laws are not strict enough or the decrease means that the policing force is doing an excellent job. However, these two relationships are not always the case.

Visiting state crime websites like the Phoenix crime stop or other government sanctioned sites will give you an idea of what crimes are being committed and how often. The one thing to notice is that there is no way we can make any type of cause and effect statement about the data and policing force just by looking at them.

Knife Crime Stops Overworking Employees

Working overtime is probably one of the best ways that you can try to increase your income. You would work many extra hours and you would get paid a lot more per week. If you have ever tried getting extra hours when others want them as well, it could certainly turn into a knife fight.

Knife crime stops people from getting extra hours. When people need the extra hours, they usually end up asking if coworkers need their shifts covered. A good way, in fact the best way to do that is to let other people have your hours first. Then they will be more inclined to take a break and let you have their hours.

Stop Crime Clipart Pictures for Free

Making a presentation about crime and rates of crime can be tough if you do not know where to look. Stop crime clipart is even harder to find because it is very hard looking for the right picture that you want. Even so, making these pictures by yourself would require too much work.

Just finding pictures of crimes sometimes can be a pain because you then have to worry about citing your source. However, there are people out there who take advantage of the internet and cause harm to many people. Identity theft is a huge problem in the world, and the internet is a gateway for hackers to steal your information.

However, there ways you can prevent this from happening. Try to limit the amount of transactions you do over the internet. Make sure the sites you are ordering from are safe and secure. Do not open any emails that suggest you should pay the government or tax agencies. Getting an email account that has a spam filter can help you block those types of emails. If the government is looking for you to pay them, they will contact you through letter, telephone, or in person.

You Can Stop Hate Crimes

Hate crimes are a sad reality of our society. Civil rights leaders have fought for decades to change the fact that hate crime flourishes in the country that bears the slogan 'Justice for All'. Changing the minds of those that commit such crime will never be completed with full accomplishment; just like abolishing evil from the face of the Earth. However that doesn't mean we have to stand still accept it. Taking a stand when given the chance will assure the humanity of man kind. Never assume that just because you are only one and your situation is small that it won't matter; even if it consists of baby steps away from racism.
